DUSHANBE, July 28, Asia-Plus  — The government is taking specific measures to minimize effects of the financial crisis, President Emomali Rahmon said in an appeal to farmers and the people of the country, posted on website of presidential press service.

“Last year, appealing to the people, I noted that they should make 2-year stocks of foods, especially wheat, due to use of all reserves and opportunities, first of all, through rational use of land ,” said the president, “Effects of the crisis, natural disasters, drought, shortage of water and other factors make the provision of population with food products a serious problem in many countries and according to experts’ estimate, this process will continue in the future as well.  It is natural that under such conditions, we should relay on, first of all, ourselves and all residents of the country, first of all farmers, should clearly realize this.”

This year, heads of seed-growing and dehqon (peasant) farms as well as researchers and specialists in agriculture should ensure maximally rational and efficient use of irrigated lands and take adequate measures to make stocks of high-yielding varieties of agricultural crops, first of all wheat, through introduction and wide use of achievements of modern science and technologies, the appeal says.

Besides, all those, who have opportunities, should take good care of this year’s rich crop and make food stocks for the next two years; in other words, each Tajik family should have a two-year stock of food products.
