QURGHON TEPPA, May 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — The northern Sughd province will construct ten residential buildings for disaster-hit families in Khatlon’s Khuroson district, Sulton Rahimov, the head of the department for ecology and emergencies within the President’s Executive Office, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, by president’s instruction all government bodies and regional authorities are charged to contribute to construction of residential buildings for the Khuroson residents that had been affected by recent torrential rain and mudslides.
“A group of representatives from the Sughd local authorities arrived in Khuroson today to closely monitor the situation,” said Rahimov, “Cities and districts of the Khaton province are charged to build 70 houses for the disaster-hit residents of Khuroson.” He reminded that by president’s order the disaster-hit residents of Khuroson should move to new houses by November this year.
In the meantime, the chief of the Khatlon emergency management agency Abdusattor Khoushvakhtov told Asia-Plus today that they have already received several applications from private entrepreneurs who have expressed readiness to help construct residential buildings for the disaster-hit families. “Every day, more than 200 tons of cement and other building materials are delivered to Khuroson,” Khoushvakhtov said.
As it had been reported earlier, torrential rain on April 21 and May 14 this year caused a series of mudslides that damaged 294 houses in the Khuroson district; 156 houses were destroyed completely.
