DUSHANBE, May 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi has held a number of meeting on sidelines of the 36th session of the council of foreign ministers (CFM) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member states that kicked off in the Syrian capital Damascus on May 23, according to the MFA information department.
On May 23, Zarifi met with Dr. Anwar Muhammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab (UAE). The sides expressed satisfaction with the pace of expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The UAE minister appreciated Tajik side’s support for an initiative of his country to open representative office of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Dushanbe and assessed that as a token of friendly relations between the two countries, the MFA information department said.
The same day, Zarifi held talks with Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Ali, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). During the meeting, Tajik minister briefed the IDB president on the present state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation of Tajikistan with Muslim states. He also drew attention of the IDB head to issues related to implementation of a number of republican projects having significant importance for development of cooperation in the region. During the meeting, Zarifi also delivered a message addressed to the IDB president from the government of Tajikistan regarding the provision of assistance to Tajik regions that had been affected by recent torrential rains and resulting floods and mudflows. Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Ali noted that the IDB was ready to make contribution to implementation of important projects in Tajikistan in the future as well.
