A new gas field called Izmail has been put into operation in Zaunguz Karakum desert area in the northern gas bearing region of Lebap province. This field has been kept in reserve until today. The gas field was developed by Turkmen specialists. The field was commissioned in less than a year, including construction of a gas collector and 16-km long Izmail-Nayyp gas pipeline.

The productive layers of this field were discovered in 1980s, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent was told in Lebapgazchykarysh department. The field contains billions of cubic meters of natural gas. Three wells are currently operating at this stage. Their number will grow when the field development continues.

Gas from Izmail field is sent to the Nayyp gas processing plant. After refining, gas is supplied to the interstate pipeline system through which Turkmen natural gas reaches foreign customers.
