KHUJAND, January 22, 2009, Asia-Plus — Two textile factories in Khujand have decreased production volumes following the global financial crisis and loss of product market abroad.

A source at the administration of the limited liability company, Textile City said that two of four factory’s workshops were not in operation now.  “However, we are doing all that we can to find new product markets,” the source said.

Sharifjon Qoriyev, an accountant with the Khujand-based joint-venture, Javoni, noted that the factory now operated; however, the administration was concerned over lack of orders for February.

“The enterprise currently operates only 20 percent of its rated capacity,” said the accountant, “If the situation does not change for the better within the next couple of weeks, shareholders will have to consider further expediency of the enterprise operation.”

More than 1,000 people currently work with Javoni.  The enterprise produces cotton shirts and trousers under the brand of Italian firm Carrera.
