KHUJAND, February 16, 2011, Asia-Plus — Sughd education authorities have filed lawsuits in the Sughd regional economic court against graduates from teachers’ training higher and special secondary institutions who were assigned to work with schools but failed to appear in schools, according to the Sughd education directorate.

“985 graduates from teachers’ training higher and special secondary institutions were assigned to work with schools in the province last September, but 296 of them have failed to appear in schools for a number of reasons,” said the source, “The majority of young women who graduated from the teachers’ training institutes last year married and are currently on maternity leave, while young men have left for Russia seeking better employment opportunities.”

“We are thoroughly studying every case separately and if it turns out that graduates failed to appear in schools for no reason, teachers’ training institutes they graduated from will file lawsuits against them in the Sughd regional economic to exact money spent by state for their education,” he added.

In the meantime, the Khujand State University administration says 8,719 somoni are spent on average for training of one specialist and this amount will be exacted from assigned graduates who failed to appear in schools.

At the end of last year, economic courts in cities and districts of Sughd received 11 such statements of claim from the Khujand State University.  To-date, the university has prepared 28 other similar statements of claims.
