KULOB, January 19, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Afghanistan 1979-1989 War Memorial will be erected in Kulob’s Central Park in February 2009.  The memorial will be monument to commemorate soldiers from Kulob who died fighting during the war in Afghanistan, Kulob mayor Homid Abdulloyev said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, 0.16 ha of land was allotted in the park for the memorial complex.  Expenses on construction of the monument will be partially paid by the Kulob mayor’s office.  Besides, local enterprises and organizations as well as veterans of the Afghan war will make donations for construction of the memorial complex.
