DUSHANBE, April 11, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The Commission on Combating Terrorism at Israel”s National Security Council recommends that Israeli citizens avoid travel to Tajikistan on the threshold of the Jewish festival of Pesach (Passover), MIGnews.com reports.

A travel warning issued by Israel’s National Security Council also recommends that Israeli citizens avoid travel to Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan during the Pesach festival as a threat to Israeli citizens reportedly still persists in these countries.

The report says the mentioned countries have quite close relations with Iran.

It is to be noted that it is not the first time that Israel has recommended that its citizens avoid travel to Tajikistan on the threshold of the Passover festival.  Last year, The Commission on Combating Terrorism at Israel”s National Security Council recommended that Israeli citizens planning to visit Tajikistan delay their travels.

Passover (Pesach) is a Jewish holy day and festival.  It commemorates the story of the Exodus, in which the ancient Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt.  Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan and is celebrated for seven or eight days.  It is one of the most widely observed Jewish holidays.

Passover is a spring festival, so the 14th day of Nisan begins on the night of a full moon after the vernal equinox.  This year the Passover falls on April 19.
