DUSHANBE, April 25 2011, Asia-Plus  — Specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) in cooperation with researchers from the Academy of Agricultural Sciences have nurtured a new cotton growth – “20-Solagii Istiqloliyat” (20th Anniversary of Independence).

The source at a MoA says the researchers have nurtured the new growth through crossing the “L-461” and “KL-5” cotton growths.  “The length of the new cotton growth is 34-35 millimeters and its vegetative period lasts for 120-125 days,” he said, noting that the “20-Solagii Istiqloliyat” growth keeps its properties for many years that is one of factors contributing to increase in productivity and quality.

Tajik researchers have also nurtured a new fine-fiber cotton growth, “Avesto,” through crossing the “KL-5” and the “Termez-16” cotton growths.  The level of productivity of this cotton growth is reportedly 3.5-4.0 tons per one hectare.  Farmers plan to plant this cotton growth on 5,000 hectares this year, the source added.
