DUSHANBE, June 2, 2011, Asia-Plus — Former head of the commercial department within the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting, Habibullo Tashripov, who has been found guilty of large-scale fraud and document forgery, has been released from custody in the courtroom.
Judge from a court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district Bakhtiyor Iskandarov, who presided over the trial, told Asia-Plus today that the court ordered Tashripov to pay fine in an amount of 61,500 somoni (equivalent to more than US$13,600). “Tashripov is also barred from holding positions of importance during 1½ years,” Iskandarov noted.
Another official from the Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting – Olim Rahimov, former head of the personnel department – was in the dock together with Tashripov. The court ordered him to pay a fine of 3,500 somoni, the judge said.
Habibullo Tashripov was detained by officers from the anticorruption agency last autumn on suspicion of having taken a US$30,000 bribe.
We will recall that under amendments made to the country’s penal code last summer, a person who committed an economic crime may be released from criminal responsibility if he repairs damage and pays fine.
