DUSHANBE, January 3, 2009, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, President Dmitry Medvedev, on December 31 2008 to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation, according to presidential press service.

Congratulating each other on the New Year, the two highly appraised the present level of many-aspect cooperation between their countries and expressed mutual confidence that due to constructive efforts of the leaders of the two countries all favorable opportunities would be effectively used to promote further expansion of economic cooperation and strengthening of friendship between Tajikistan and Russia.

Both sides confirmed their interest in further expansion of bilateral cooperation and agreed to hold the highest level meeting in late January or early February this year for the purpose of giving new impulse to development of bilateral relations between the two countries, the press service said.
