DUSHANBE, January 19, 2012, Asia-Plus — The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) expects the country’s 2012 year-end inflation to stand at 10.5 percent.
The NBT deputy chairperson, Ms. Malohat Kholiqzoda, remarked this at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 19.
She reminded that Tajikistan’s 2011 year-end inflation stood at 9.3 percent, which was 0.5 percent lower than in 2010.
According to Kholiqzoda, last year’s inflation processes were connected with rising prices for import goods. “Rise in prices for fuels, wheat, flour, vegetable oil as well as rise in prices for domestic products have affected the inflation rate,” Kholiqzoda said.
Referring to data of the World Bank, the central bank deputy head noted that compared to 2010 the international prices for wheat, vegetable oil and petroleum rose last year 40.7, 40.2 and 39.3 percent respectively.
“Analysis conducts by specialists from our bank shows that real inflation (without impact of external, seasonal and administrative factors) last year stood at 4.4 percent,” Kholiqzoda added.
