KULOB, March 29, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The first private veterinary clinic was officially opened in the village of Gelot in the Vose district, Khatlon province on March 29.

The Vose chief veterinary inspector Iskandar Isoyev says a total cost of the project is 70,000 somoni and 30,000 somoni of this amount were allotted in no-strings aid by international organization OXFAM.

“The clinic will serve 15 villages in the district,” said Isoyev.  “A task is assigned to make cattle healthier and increase daily milk yields from 1-2 liters to 8-10 liters.”

The Khatlon chief veterinary inspector Mirzokhon Sangov says they have received applications for land parcels for construction of private veterinary centers from nearly 400 veterinary surgeons.  “150 applications have been approved and the number of veterinary clinics in Khatlon province will increase to 75 by the end of April,” Sangov noted.

According to him, OXFAM, UN FAO and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) help veterinary surgeons build veterinary clinics.
