Two doctors from Rasht region, who were sentenced to jail for failure to report about medical aid provided to one of former commanders of the United Tajik Opposition Ali Bedaki, have resumed their professional activities after being granted amnesty, chief physician of the Central regional hospital of Rasht region Dehoti Zoirov told AP.
“Both surgeons Abdullo Vazirov and Muhammadholik Sodik have resumed their professional activities following their release in February this year. They are both professional surgeons and are able to carry out very complicated medical operations. Our hospital needs them,” he said stressing that both doctors got their medical education during the times of the Soviet Union: Muhammadholik Sodik is now older than 40 while Vazirov is over 60 years old.
Deputy Head of the Tajik Justice Ministry’s Penalty Execution Control Department Ilhom Mahmudov confirmed that the two doctors were granted amnesty.
“They were sentenced to 3 years in jail under article 347 (Failure to report about crime) of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan. As they both have already served one year sentence their sentences were cut by 2 years in accordance with the amnesty law,” Mahmudov has said.
