Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon met today with the visiting Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and the Executive Director of the UN Department for Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yuri Fedotov.
The sides discussed Tajik-UNODC cooperation on combating drug trafficking and other threats and expressed satisfaction over current level of cooperation in this direction, President’s press service reports.
In the course of the meeting Tajikistan President said that our country speaks for the development of cooperation to combat transnational crime, illicit drug trafficking and is interested in its further improvement, the source stressed.
President Rahmon highly evaluated UNODC’s efforts on strengthening of capacities of related structures of Central Asia region, including Tajikistan, and cited the activity of the Tajik Drug Control Agency, which was set up with support of the United Nations, as an example.
President expressed his hope that UNODC will continue to provide assistance to Tajikistan.
