The president of Turkmenistan spoke in favor of more efficient approach to agricultural industry resources use, taking into account capacity of each region, which requires comprehensive approach based on scholars and practitioners views, said Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov at the Cabinet of Ministers enlarged meeting on November 3.

“It is not a secret that agricultural industry of our country has focued on development of cotton production. Cotton was sowed throughout the country, from north to south, on all agricultural lands regardless local climate. Even in northern regions of Dashoguz, where there is relatively small number of dry and warm days, which is not suitable for crop cultivation. Taking into account weather and climate conditions it is more appropriate to grow grain here,” said the president of Turkmenistan.

In Balkan region, there is not enough water for cotton production. “Throughout centuries people of this region grew livestock, yet despite previous experience we continue to sow cotton, which is economically unprofitable,” said the Turkmen President.

Berdymuhamedov stressed a need to make ration use of land resources.

In this regard Akmammedov, the vice-president, was instructed to prepare relevant proposals for further industry reforms.
