Contribution of ABD, Saudi Development Fund to enhancement of Tajik education sector amounts to US$15 million

            DUSHANBE, February 6, Asia-Plus  — The Saudi Development Fund has invested US$3 million in the project aimed at rehabilitation and renovation of secondary schools in Tajikistan, Rashid Salohov, an official with the Tajik Ministry of Education, announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on February 4.  

According to him, the project is working in three districts across the country: Vahdat, Tursunzoda and Panj.  In Vahdat and Tursunzoda, the project is finished in October-November this year and in Panj, it will be completed in February next year.   “The project provides for creation of more than 2,400 pupils’ seats in the republic,” the Tajik education official said, noting that so far, they have fulfilled some 13 percent of works stipulated by the project.  

According to information from the Ministry of Education, the project sponsored Asian Development Bank (ADB) titled “Education System Reforms” for a total amount US$12.410 is currently working in Tajikistan.  This project targets the city of Kulob in Khatlon province, Roshtqala district in Gorno Badakhshan, Ayni and Mastchoh districts in Sughd province, as well as Rasht district (eastern Tajikistan).  

Besides, the OPEC-sponsored project totaling US$2 million has been completed in the republic.  Under this project 19 items of textbooks have been published for schools in Tajikistan.
