DUSHANBE, June 19, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov attend the second summit of the Conference on Cooperation and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CCCBMA), which was held in the Kazakh city of Almaty on June 17, according to presidential press service.

On the sidelines of the CCCMBA summit, Rahmonov held a number of bilateral meetings in Almaty.  On June 16, President Rahmonov met head of Palestinian delegation Taysir Khaled.  Their talks focused on the situation in

Near East

and settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.  Rahmonov noted that the United Nations and some world powers should act as guarantors in settlement of this conflict.  For his part, Mr. Khaled noted that

could make its contribution to settlement of the conflict.

On the same day, Rahmonov met with Mr. Shimon Peres, Vice-Premier of Israel.  The Palestinian-Israeli conflict was also in the center of discussion at their meeting.  The two also considered the possibility of expansion of bilateral cooperation between

and


Israel


in the field of education, healthcare, agriculture, food industry and introduction of modern technologies. 

During his stay in Almaty, Rahmonov also met with representatives of Tajik Diaspora.  During the meeting Rahmonov noted that for the purpose of tackling a problem of shortage of teachers in Tajik villages in


Kazakhstan


some 1000 Tajik teachers would be sent there.  A large bulk of textbooks and other educational supplies was handed over to them for Tajik-language schools in

The CCCMBA summit has been the first step towards creating security structures in

Asia

.  It demonstrated a process to form institutions of the Conference on Cooperation and Confidence-Building Measures in

Asia

and set up its permanent executive body – the Secretariat.

The second summit of the CCCMBA ended with leaders calling for expanding cooperation on antiterrorism, energy, and other issues.  The summit participants called on the world community to join forces to take on challenges such as social degradation, poverty, and the environment.
