DUSHANBE, August 9, Asia-Plus – Elaborating alternative report on the UN Convention on Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) is the aim of a series of round tables with Tajik NGOs, starting today in the “Tavhid” Hotel in Khujand today morning.

According to Mr. Aleksandr Sodiqov, Media Assistant at the OSCE Center in Dushanbe, during the OSCE-supported round tables, participating NGOs will discuss draft shadow report on the CEDAW to provide additional information and perspectives of civil society on the issues concerning improving gender situation in Tajikistan.

He has noted that the shadow report will complement the first National Report on CEDAW implementation, covering period of 1993-2004, which the Government of Tajikistan has submitted to the UN CEDAW Committee.

Similar round tables are planned to take place in Dushanbe, Qurghon Teppa, Khorog and Kulob throughout August. The shadow report will be translated into Tajik language and published to be disseminated among civil society institutions, state authorities and academia.

The project is a part of the OSCE Centre’s broader efforts to strengthen civil society in the person of women and gender NGOs in advocating for gender equality and eliminating discrimination against women.
