DUSHANBE, September 29, Asia-Plus – The OSCE/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is deploying an Election Observation Mission for the November 6 presidential election in Tajikistan today.  

Muhibullo Dodojonov, a spokesman for the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER), said the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission will be deployed in the office of the OSCE Center in Dushanbe.  According to him, some 200 observers from the OSCE/ODIHR will monitor and assess the entire electoral process in terms of its compliance with international standards for democratic elections and national legislation.  

The CCER has to date granted accreditation to 55 international observers, Dodojonov said.

“All in all, more than 700 international observers will monitor the electoral process in our country,” said the CCER spokesman, “They will analyze a process of opening of polling stations and familiarize themselves with work of electoral bodies on consideration of applications and complains lodged by participants in the electoral process.”

We will recall that the CIS election observation mission was deployed at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex in Dushanbe last Tuesday.

68 constituencies and 3,200 polling stations for the presidential election have been set up in Tajikistan.  Besides, the CCER is setting up 25 polling stations in 15 countries around the world.
