DUSHANBE, October 30, Asia-Plus – His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Ismaili Muslims, arrived in Tajikistan on October 29 for an official visit. 

The same day he met with President Emomali Rahmonov.  According to presidential press service, in the course of the talks President Rahmonov and Karim Aga Khan IV discussed a broad range of issues related to cooperation between the Government of Tajikistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).  Rahmonov expressed gratitude to AKDN for its contribution to implementation of a series of projects aimed at enhancement of education, health and energy sectors, as well as banking system in Tajikistan.  

Today morning, His Highness the Aga Khan met with Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev.

After the meeting with the Dushanbe Mayor His Highness the Aga Khan will join President Rahmonov in a groundbreaking ceremony for a world-class Serena Hotel in Dushanbe.  After that he will hold talks with Foreign Minister Talbak Nazarov and Deputy Prime Minister Asadullo Ghulomov.   

Today, he will also visit the Ismaili Center construction site in Dushanbe. 

On October 31, President Rahmonov and His Highness will leave for Gorno Badakhshan to inaugurate a bridge across the Panj River in the Ishkashim district. 

In Khorog, the Aga Khan will also visit the Pamirs Botanical Gardens and the site of the future campus of the University of Central Asia (UCA) in Khorog.
