DUSHANBE, November 15, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) has summed up the final results of the November 6 presidential election. 

Muhibullo Dodojonov, a spokesman for the central electoral commission, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that the final election results differ inconsiderably from the initial results of the polls.  Like the preliminary results, the final election results give Emomali Rahmonov 79.3 percent.  The rate of votes polled by Olimjon Boboyev of the Party of Economic Reforms also remains the same – 6.2 percent. 

According to the final election results, the Communist Party Central Committee Secretary and a deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), Ismoil Talbakov, polled 5.23 percent of votes (according to the preliminary results, he got 5.1 percent) and Amir Qaraqulov of the Agrarian Party got 5.15 percent of votes (the initial results of the polls gave him 5.3 percent).

Besides, inconsiderable changes have been reported in a number of people casting votes, according to Dodojonov.  According to the initial results of the polls, 91 percent of eligible voters cast ballots, while the final election results show that the voter turnout was 90.89 percent.  The other figures remain the same.   

The CCER spokesman also noted that the presidential election had come to 2.8 million somonis (equivalent to some US$826,000).  This amount includes expenditures on publication of more than 3 million voting-papers, as well as ID cards candidates and their representatives, purchase of 3,000 transparent ballot-boxes, establishment of 68 constituencies and 3,056 polling stations.  “Thus publication of 45,000 copies of Tajikistan’s Constitutional Law “On the Election of the President of Tajikistan” for all constituencies and poling stations cost nearly 100,000 somonis,” said Dodojonov, “200,000 somonis were used for printing agitating posters.”  Besides, candidates for president received 3,600 somonis each for their election campaign.
