DUSHANBE, November 15, Asia-Plus — Eurasia Foundation announces the opening of its successor organization, Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA) in Tajikistan.  As a local organization, EFCA will change the form and scope of Eurasia Foundation’s work.  An official opening will be held today evening, at 6:00 p.m.

Zarona Ismoilova, EFCA Country Director, has noted that building on Eurasia Foundation’s 13 years of experience in the region, EFCA will adapt its programs to better meet the needs of local communities.

EFCA will support local initiatives in Tajikistan through partnerships with government bodies, non-profit organizations and businesses. Through these partnerships, EFCA aims to respond effectively to the needs of citizens and carry out demand-driven programs to develop their communities and improve their economic well-being.

EFCA, which now has registered offices in Almaty, Bishkek, Dushanbe and Osh, will build on the Eurasia Foundation’s development expertise in the region. With experience awarding grants and running projects in Tajikistan, EFCA will continue Eurasia Foundation’s work not only through grants but also through multi-faceted programs.

Since 1993, Eurasia Foundation has invested more than $40 million in Central Asia to support local initiatives in civic engagement, private enterprise, education and public administration. Eurasia Foundation began working in Tajikistan in 1997 and has invested more than $3 million through more than 190 grants.
