DUSHANBE, January 4, Asia-Plus — Last year saw 18 skirmishes between Tajik border troops and armed drug smugglers on the Tajik-Afghan border, according to the Border Service at the State Committee for National Security.  Three trespassers were killed and three others were injured in those skirmishes. 

In 2006, Tajik border troops in cooperation with other country’s power-wielding structures seized 2,038 kilograms of drugs.  The totaled included 902.762 kilograms of heroin, 742 kilograms of cannabis and 246.699 kilograms of raw opium.   

Besides, the border troops last year destroyed 682,100 bushes of wild hemp, according to the border service’s press service.  

In 2006, Tajik border troops also seized 55 firearms, including 19 sub-machine-guns, and 11,154 bullets of different caliber.  

Last year, Tajik border troops jointly with other power-wielding structures of the country carried out 13 special operations.
