DUSHANBE, January 19, Asia-Plus – A sub-regional two-day meeting on implementation of conventions on preservation of cultural heritage in Central Asia opened in Dushanbe on January 19.    

The meeting participants include representatives from culture organizations and customs services of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan 

Munzifa Bobojonova, executive secretary of Tajikistan’s National Commission for UNESCO, said that the meeting staged by UNESCO in cooperation with Tajikistan’s National Commission for UNESCO is considering issues related to ways of preservation of cultural heritage in the Central Asian region as well as hearing reports by representatives from the UNESCO Headquarters on preservation and protection of cultural relics in case of armed conflicts.   

Besides, participants at the meeting are also discussing a progress of implementation of the UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property (1970) and the UNIDROIT on Stolen and Illicitly Exported Cultural Object (1995).  

The meeting will also discuss measures to promote ratification of international convention on protection of cultural non-material heritage (2003), according to Bobojonova.  

Each of countries participating at the meeting will present its national report on implementation of these conventions.
