DUSHANBE, January 19, Asia-Plus — 59 traffic accidents have been reported in Tajikistan over the first 17 days of January, which is 13 cases more than in the similar period of last year, according to the Tajik traffic police administration.

The traffic police press service said that 19 people had been killed and at least 76 others had been injured in those 59 accidents.

Bad weather conditions make traffic in mountain areas difficult.  One person was killed and four other were injured Wednesday as an Opel-Vectra sedan overturned in the Khatlon province.

According to the source, the accident took place on the Shar-Shar pass in the Danghara district.  The driver could not controlled the car and it overturned.  As a result of the accident one of passengers died on the spot.  The driver and three other passengers sustained various wounds and were taken to the Norak hospital.

In all, eight traffic accidents were reported in Tajikistan last Wednesday.  Three persons were killed and 16 others were injured in those accidents.
