DUSHANBE, February 1, Asia-Plus – Government has summed up the country’s economic results in 2006.  

President Emomali Rahmonov presided over a meeting of the government on January 31.

According to presidential press service, the meeting summed up Tajikistan’s economic results in 2006 and discussed socioeconomic tasks for this year.  

Heads of ministries and organizations reported on the results of work that was carried out last year.    

Abdufattoh Sharipov, a spokesman for the president, noted that during the meeting it was noted that the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2006 was 9.272 billion somonis, an increase of 7 percent over last year. 

Compared to 2005 the index of the volume of production of industrial goods amounted to 104.9 percent and last year”s gross agricultural product from all categories of farms increased by5.4 percent compared to 2005.  

An external trade turnover of Tajikistan last year increased by 39.4 percent compared to 2005.    

During the meeting it was noted that revenues of last year”s budget surpassed the target by 6.5 percent, amounting to 1.6576 million somonis, which is 17.9 percent of GDP, while the budget’s expenditures exceeded the target by 1 percent and amounted to 1.6195 billion somonis, which is 17.4 percent of the country’s GDP. 

At the same time, during the meeting it was noted that some enterprises last year failed to adequately use their resources and there were instances of unfounded interference of public management bodies into activity of private sector.  

According to the spokesman, Rahmonov demanded at the meeting that measures should be taken to provide further sustainable economic growth, execution of the national budget and clearing off all debts on pensions and allowances, development of transportation and communications, etc.  

The government also endorsed a complex targeted program on wide use of renewable energy resources designed for 2007-2015.   

The government also approved a number of bills and a draft agreement between prosecutor-general’s offices of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan on legal protection and cooperation as well as a number of other documents.
