DUSHANBE, February 2, Asia-Plus – A fair of farm produce at lower prices opened on the Barakat market today.

Bahriddin Valiyev, the head of the Dushanbe trade department, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that 145.5 tons of farm produce have been put for sale in the fair.

According to him, the farm products put for sale in the fair on the Barakat market include 35 tons of potatoes at the rate of 1.4-1.5 somonis per kilogram, 35 tons of onions at the rate of 0.80 somonis per kilogram, as well as 18 tons of other vegetables, 14 tons of fruits, 20 tons of wheat flour, 10 tons of sugar, and 1.5 tons of meat.

The fair was organized by the Dushanbe trade department in cooperation with the city’s markets.  The main purpose of the fair is to create competition in order to lower the prices of farm produce in Dushanbe, according to Valiyev.

He added that a three-day fair of farm produce is scheduled to open in Dushanbe in March, ahead of the Navrouz holiday.
