DUSHANBE, February 27, Asia-Plus – A cotton-sowing campaign is scheduled to start in Tajikistan in a month, while specialists are afraid that frosts can affect the cotton-sowing campaign.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAET), all depends on weather conditions.

Usually, cotton-sowing campaign starts in southern Tajikistan after the Navrouz holiday (March 21) and the northern province of Sughd launches the cotton-sowing campaign within the first ten days of April.

As far as the preparations for the cotton-sowing campaign are concerned, Tajik farmers have to date ploughed some 91.3 percent of 262,887 hectares of farmland allotted for cotton.

The source at a MoAET noted that cotton-growing farms had stockpiled 31,347 tons of cottonseeds, which is 100 percent of the target.
