DUSHANBE, March 1, Asia-Plus – The branch of Tajikistan’s National Red Crescent Society (NRCS) in the Sughd province has helped improvement of local population’s access to safe drinking water through the “Water Sanitary” project, which has been implemented under financial support of Swedish and Norwegian Red Cross Organizations.

Madina Sayfiddinova, information officer with Tajik NRCS, said that an official opening of water pipe was held in the village of Dehmai in the Jabborrasulov district in Sughd on February 28.

The main problem of the village was absence of drinking water resources.  The project funded the construction of pipeline from a water spring to the village, providing 3,500 local people with access to safe drinking water, according to her.  The project will improve living conditions of the local community and decrease the rate of waterborne diseases.
