DUSHANBE, March 13, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s economic results over the past two months were summed up at a March 12 government meeting presided over by President Emomali Rahmonov. 

The meeting participants included members of the government, heads of ministries and organizations as well senior representatives from president’s office.  

According to presidential press service, the meeting also considered issues related to removing shortcomings revealed last year and taking measures to speed up further socioeconomic development of the country.  

During the meeting it was noted that compared to January-February 2006, the index of the volume of the gross domestic product (GDP) over the past two months has amounted to 104.6 percent in comparable prices.  Tax revenues amounted to 356 million somonis, which is 58.7 million somonis more than it was originally planned and 117 million somonis more than in the same period of 2006.   

President Rahmonov expressed dissatisfaction with the low rate of collection of fees to Fund for Social Security of the Population and set concrete tasks on accelerating the process of collection of funds to the budget.  

The meeting also discussed the regular distribution of microloans to small and medium-sized enterprises in remote districts, development of plant-growing and improvement of the cities and districts. 

The president urged to speed up construction work on the Sangtuda-1 and Sangtuda-2 hydropower plants and process of working out projects for Zarafshon hydropower plant and Chormaghzak tunnel, etc.   

The head of state also set tasks on making preparations for the Navrouz holidays, reviving and propagating historical and cultural traditions of the Tajik peoples, providing assistance to orphanages, elderly centers and veterans, etc.
