DUSHANBE, March 19, Asia-Plus — The power supply from Pamir-1 was partially restored on March 15 with the reintroduction of Unit 4 into operation, press release issued by PamirEnergy said.

According to press release, this additional 7 MW capacity will help stabilizing the grid and enable the company to provide additional power supply to its customers.  A new power schedule incorporating this increased energy availability is being devised and shall be formalized shortly.

Following an accident resulting in flooding at the Pamir-1 power plant on Monday 5th February, all four power units were entirely engulfed by flood water resulting in extensive damage of the plant and equipment.

Mahedi Lalani, Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, PamirEnergy, said that First Deputy Prime Minister Asadullo Ghulomov, Raghu Sharma from the World Bank, Governor of Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region Qodir Qosimov and officials from the International Finance Corporation visited Pamir-1 on March 11.

During the visit it was determined, with the consensus of hydroelectric experts from PamirEnergy, Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS), Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, Russian manufacturers, Fichtner (PamirEnergy consultants), and visiting engineers from the World Bank, that Unit 4 could be put into operation at short notice.  The team of PamirEnergy engineers assisted by Russian, Barqi Tojik and Norak specialists worked diligently to prepare this unit for temporary operation.  Notwithstanding the success of the fast track rehabilitation of Unit 4, a significant volume of rehabilitation work still lies ahead.

“PamirEnergy management is extremely appreciative of the dedicated staff of the Company that has worked tirelessly in this rehabilitation effort, which also provides substantial optimism for the long-term recovery of Pamir-1,” said press release, “The company looks forward to continued cooperation with the Government of Tajikistan, the regional government of GBAO, the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC) officials and the engineering specialists to rehabilitate Pamir-1 in its entirety.  PamirEnergy is also grateful for the tremendous support it has received throughout this difficult time from its consumers.”
