DUSHANBE, March 30, Asia-Plus – The Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) under the Government of Tajikistan has reported the first victim of flooding caused by ongoing torrential rain.

The source at a CES said that torrential rain on March 28-29 caused increase in the water level in rivers of Yakhsou and Surkhob in the Khatlon province.  On Thursday March 29, body of a 4-year-old Komron Haidar was found in the Yakhsou River near the village of Shugnou in the Mouminobod district, according to the source.

The source noted that a number of rivers in the Mouminobod district have caused major problems in recent years.  Floods and debris eroded river banks, interrupted routes and damaged buildings and agricultural land.

According to the source, floods also caused serious damage to Kulob, Vose, Temurmalik and Khovaling districts.  “In Kulob, flooding partially damaged house-building plant,” said the source, “In the village of Hosilobodi Bolo in Vose, flooding damaged a school building and in Temurmalik, the flood destroyed 100 meters of the river bank protection works.”

In the Khovaling district, the flood damaged the section of the road (76th kilometer of the road Vose-Khovaling), according to the source.
