KULOB, June 26, Asia-Plus — Kulob farmers have yielded the first 20,000 tons of grains by June 26. 

Rajabali Kulabekov, a chief agronomist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said that those 20,000 tons had been gathered from 12,758 hectares, and average grain yields have amounted to 1.56 tons per one hectare.    

According to him, six of ten districts in the Kulob zone of Khatlon have reached 16.8 percent of the wheat and barley target by June 26.  

The chief agronomist noted that 739 farmers and 91 combine harvesters have to date been involved in the grain-harvesting campaign in the Kulob zone.  “There are 350 combine harvesters in Kulob, and the majority of them will be used as afar as necessary,” Kulabekov said.  

“The highest grain yields have been reported in Vose and Temourmalik – 2.3 ton/ha, and the lowest yields have been reported in Farkhor – 08 ton/ha,” the chief agronomist said.

He noted that the Kulob zone is expected to yield 268,997 tons of cereals (wheat and barley) this year. The totaled includes 119,656 tons to be gathered by private farming units from 40,717 hectares, according to Kulabekov.
