DUSHANBE, December 13, Asia-Plus  — State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were discussed at a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with visiting UAE Foreign Minister Muhammad Husseyn Al Shali that was held in Dushanbe on December 12.  Both sides vowed to boost trade between the two countries.   

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with President Rahmon, the UAE foreign minister said that they had also discussed opening of the UAE embassy in Dushanbe.

According to him, in the course of the talks they had also exchanged views on a state and prospects of expansion of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. 

Both sides vowed to boost bilateral trade, which currently did not correspondent to its real potential.  

 “We agreed to hold a joint business forum and meeting of heads of companies of the two countries,” the minister said, underlining the importance of good relations between the heads of state of Tajikistan and the United Arab Emirates.   

He said they had also discussed a broad range of issues related to international and regional policy, in particular the situation in the Middle East.   

Asked about specific economic projects, in which the UAE companies could invest, Al Shali noted that energy, cotton sector and animal husbandry were areas of which could drive cooperation between the two countries.   

Commenting on the possibility of sending Tajik labor migrants to the United Arab Emirates, the minister said that that issue would be discussed in detailed by labor ministries of the two countries.
