DUSHANBE, December 27, Asia-Plus  — Tajik State Air Company TajikAir and other air carries operating flights in and from Tajikistan have carried a total more than one million passengers this year, TajikAir press service said.

Nazira Davlatova, a spokeswoman for TajikAir, said that this is the highest number over the past fifteen years.  “The similar number was reported in 1992,” the spokeswoman said, noting that that time, passengers were carried only by the Tajik national air carrier.

18 foreign air carriers now operate flights in and from Tajikistan.  Russia has its 12 air carriers operating in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan – two, and Kazakhstan, Turkey, China, and Afghanistan – one each.

TajikAir accounts for nearly half of the total number of passengers carried in Tajikistan this year.  In January-November 2007, the Tajik national air carrier has carried 514,600 passengers, which is 33.5 percent more than in the same period of last year.  Over the first eleven months of 2007, TajikAir has carried 500,000 passengers

According to the preliminary data, the Tajik national carrier has overfulfilled its shipping target for January-November 2007 by 42.8 percent.
