DUSHANBE, January 24, Asia-Plus  — More than 20 issues were discussed at a January 24 session of the government presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, presidential press service said.

The government endorsed new Rules on types and issue of Tajik visas.  The document determines types of visas, terms of validity of them, etc.  The new document does not annul the government resolution of April 2006 that eased visa requirements for citizens of 68 countries.

Speaking at the meeting, the head of state set specific tasks on improving activities of Tajik diplomatic missions and consulates in foreign countries.

The meeting also discussed the implementation of instruction given by the president at a meeting with local entrepreneurs.

The government also endorsed bill on treasury and amendments to the law on self-government institutions of settlements and villages, as well as two resolutions on the laws on public associations and traffic regulations, and sent them to the parliament.

The session also approved a strategy of the fight against corruption for 2008-2012.

The president demanded at the meeting that adequate measures should be taken to improve provision of population with electrical power, liquefied gas and other types of fuel.

He also denied rumors that Tajikistan is allegedly exporting power to other countries despite the present serious energy crisis as “unfounded.”  The president noted that the country would export surplus of electricity to other countries only during the summer months.
