DUSHANBE, February 8, Asia-Plus  — Rehabilitation of a nine-story residential building in Dushanbe’s Zarafshon area, which was seriously damaged by a domestic gas blast on November 8, 2007, will have been finished by the summer, Hokimsho Sharipov, the head of the Dushanbe capital construction directorate, told Asia-Plus on Friday.

According to him, they now work on removing damaged parts of the building.  “Specialists from the Dushanbe Planning Institute should examine the building structure and assess damage degree,” Sharipov said, noting that work on rehabilitation of the building will take some 3-4 months.

He noted that the rehabilitation work have been funded from the city budget.  He added that financial losses of residents should be repaid by the district, where the damaged residential building is located.

We will recall that the gas explosion flattened part of an apartment building in Dushanbe’s Zarafshon area on November 8, 2007, killing two people including an Iranian citizen.  Seven persons were injured in the blast which shattered windows and ruined part of the nine-story building.
