            DUSHANBE, March 4, Asia-Plus  — The Unit for Implementation of the Community and Basic Health Project (PIU) has purchased medical equipment for health houses and rural health centers in the provinces of Sughd and Khatlon, Asia-Plus has learned from Nargis Qosimova, the PIU public relations coordinator.   

According to her, the equipment will be distributed to some 20 medical facilities in Asht and Spitamen in the Sughd province and Qubodiyon, Sarband and Norak in the Khatlon province.  “These facilities will be provided with refrigerators, freezing chambers and containers for keeping vaccines,” said Ms. Qosimova.  “Besides, doctors working with these facilities will receive gynecological and surgical instruments, portable electrocardiograph, as well as test devices.”

This assistance is part of the project for helping renew the primary health care infrastructure in Sughd and Khatlon provinces and support complementary measures to improve service delivery and outreach, she said.         

The Community and Basic Health Project for Tajikistan project aims to increase access to, utilization of, and patient satisfaction with health services in project-supported areas, and to build capacity and efficiency at national   levels in administering a basic package of health benefits and introducing financing reforms in primary health care.
