DUSHANBE, March 12, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) has started distribution of humanitarian aid provided to the country by Turkey’s Red Crescent, Madina Sayfiddinova, information officers at Tajik RCS, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to her, the first bulk of Turkish Red Crescent’s aid was distributed on March 8.  This bulk of aid was handed over to boarding school 3 1 in Dushanbe.

In all, 1,500 boxes of food parcels, 150 jars of halvah and 988 woolen blankets will distributed to the vulnerable sections of Tajik population.

“This humanitarian aid will be distributed to orphanages and boarding schools in the districts, which were affected the most by energy crisis,” Davlatbek Alinazarov, the chief of the Tajik RCS emergency management department, said.

We will recall that the Government of Turkey has decided to provide and dispatch humanitarian relief worth $250,000 (including the transportation expenses) to Tajikistan, taking into account the latter’s urgent needs due to the severe winter conditions, which led to an energy crisis in the country.  The dispatching of the Turkish humanitarian relief items carried out by Turkish Red Crescent on behalf of the Turkish Government, arrived at Dushanbe on March 4 and aid material has been delivered to the Tajik side in order to be distributed to those people in need.

Furthermore, Turkish NGO Deniz Feneri is about to donate approximately $150,000 worth of relief assistance to Tajikistan in an attempt to contributing the alleviation of the current hardship.
