DUSHANBE, April 14, Asia-Plus – Residents of Gorno Badakhshan are seriously concerned over the possible rise in prices of wheat flour.  

Traders at the Khorog central market said that as soon as flour, which is currently available on the market, is realized, the prices will rise to 160-170 somonis for a 50-kilogram sack of flour.  At present, the 50-kilogram sack of flour costs 135-140 somonis in Khorog.  

Ms. Koghazbegim Bakhtiyorova from the Shugnan district said that she recently received remittances from her sons working in Russia and she spent them for purchasing 4 sacks of flour following rumors about the possible rise in the flour prices in the region.  

Buyers are complaining that using rumors of rise in the flour prices, sellers currently try to sell off low-quality flour, which is in a poor demand.  

In the meantime, Valdosh Valdoshev, a specialists with the GBAO economic development directorate, says that the flour prices will remain unchanged.  According to him, areas under grains will have increased by 113 hectares in the region this year that will allow containing the flour prices in the region.
