KHOROG, April 28, Asia-Plus — Frequent tremors have been felt in several villages of GBAO’s Vanj district over the past six months, Yusuf Ishoqov, the head of the Vanj emergency management agency, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, 47 tremors have reported in seven villages in the Vanj jamoat and seven villages in the Yazgulem jamoat over the report period.
“The last tremors were registered on April 8, at 3:02 and 3:05 am,” the Vanj emergencies chief said, noting that they informed the GBAO regional emergency management agency of that.
“For its part, the GBAO regional emergency management agency has applied to the Institute of Seismology at the Tajik Academy of Sciences asking to clarify the cause of this anomalous phenomenon,” said Ishoqov. “However, the Institute specialists have not yet arrived in our district.”
In the meantime, frequent tremors caused walls of many residential buildings in the mentioned jamoats to be cracked.
It is to be noted that is not the first time that such frequent tremors have been reported in the region.
According to Doustali Khudoyorov, the chief of staff of the GBAO emergency management agency, such frequent tremors could be felt in the village of Bagu in the Ishkashim district last year and in the village of Shaimoq in the Murgab district three years ago.
