DUSHANBE, April 30, Asia-Plus  — Participation of Kazakhstan in an international consortium for completing construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan is expected to be discussed during President Emomali Rahmon’s visit to Astana, Kazakhstan, Asia-Plus has learned at the Ministry of energy and Industries (MoEI).

The source at a MoEI said that the issue is currently under consideration by both sides.  He further added that it cannot be ruled that an agreement on participation of Kazakhstan in the consortium for implementation of the Roghun electricity project will be singed in Astana.

“Besides, the sides also plan to sign an agreement on construction of 500-kilovolt power grid Khujand-Almaty,” the source said.

We will recall that Rahmon’s visit to Kazakhstan is scheduled for early May.  Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Marat Tazhin told Asia-Plus on April 25 working groups of the two countries are currently preparing a package of important documents that are expected to be signed in Astana.

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan were established in January 1993.
