DUSHANBE, May 6, Asia-Plus — Drug threat issues were a focus of a meeting of the director of the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) Rustam Nazarov with Mr. Thomas Sanderson, deputy director and senior fellow in the Transnational Threats Project (TNT) of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and Mr. David Gordon, TNT program coordinator, that was held in Dushanbe on May 5.
The DCA source said that in the course of the talks, Tajik drug control chief had briefed guests on the present drug situation in Tajikistan and measures taken by the country’s to improve efficiency of activity of the law enforcement agencies in fighting drug trafficking.
According to him, during their tour of the Central Asian region, the TNT representatives intend to study existing drug and terrorism problems.
TNT engages U.S. and foreign governments, non-governmental specialists, and private sector representatives to identify innovative approaches to combat global terrorism and radical violence. The project brings together the public and private sectors to exchange information and improve practical efforts to increase awareness and knowledge of the terror threat.
