DUSHANBE, June 7, Asia-Plus — On Friday June 6, President Emomali Rahmon signed a decree on the establishment of an office of the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) in Kyrgyzstan.
According to DCA’s head office in Dushanbe, by president’s decree the DCA office in Kazakhstan is abolished and its resource and technical base is used for establishment of the DCA office in the Kyrgyz city of Osh.
The DCA liaison officer now works with Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center (CARICC) for combating drug trafficking headquartered in Almaty, and therefore, there is no necessity in keeping the DCA office in Kazakhstan, the source said.
The DCA office had operated in Kazakhstan since October 2004 and participated in a number of successful operations to discover channels through which Afghan heroin, marijuana and opium had been smuggled through Tajikistan and Kazakhstan to Russia and Western Europe.
The Tajik counternarcotics agency now has its liaison officers also in four Afghanistan’s province bordering on Tajikistan – Badakhshan, Kunduz, Balkh and Takhor.
