DUSHANBE, June 16, Asia-Plus — On Sunday June 15, Ukrainian type transport aircraft Ruslan airlifted a 65-ton water wheel for the Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) to the Dushanbe airport.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Nozir Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, said that Barqi Tojik’s transportation service is currently transporting the wheel to the Norak HPS site.
The water wheel was manufactured at the scientific production association in Sumy, Ukraine. The wheel has been designed by the Kharkov association, Kharkov Turbo Engineering and a total cost of it is some 2.4 million US dollars, the spokesman said. It will replace the water wheel at one of units of the Norak HPS.
“Installation of the water wheel will take at least five months,” Yodgori said, noting that three other water wheels will be manufactured by the Sumy scientific production association for the Norak HPS.
A 2700 MW Norak HPS, which is Tajikistan’s main electricity producer, has nine units. The station’s capacity is 11.2 billion kWh of electrical power per year.
