DUSHANBE, June 17, Asia-Plus — In January-May 2008, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electric energy and natural gas, has amounted to $1.9083 billion, which is 129.3 percent of the January-May 2007 level, according to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics.
The overall trade balance remained negative and has amounted to $683.3 million.
Exports of goods in January-May 2008 have amounted to $612.5 million, which is $3.2 million more than in the same period of last year. Imports of goods into Tajikistan over the same five-month period have amounted to $1.2958 billion, which is $428.9 million more than in January-May 2007.
Compared to April, Tajikistan’s exports increased by 7.2 percent in May and the country’s imports in May decreased by 0.9 percent.
Over the report period, Tajikistan has had trade relations with 74 countries, including 11 CIS states.
Over the same five-month period, the CIS states have accounted for some 44.7 percent (equivalent to some $853.3 million) of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover and the far abroad countries have accounted for 55.3 percent ($1.055) of the country’s external trade turnover.
