DUSHANBE, June 24, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Visiting Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov today morning visited Russian military base’s headquarters in Dushanbe.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Pavel Konev, a spokesman for the Russian military base in Tajikistan, said that the Moscow mayor had promised to increase assistance provided to the Russian military base in Tajikistan.  Luzhkov noted that during an address to the base’s servicemen, according to him.  

“Speaking to the servicemen, Yuri Luzhkov said that Russia’s government and the Moscow mayor’s office now pay more attention to life of servicemen, and a special attention is paid to development of the necessary infrastructure,” the spokesman said. 

The Moscow mayor, in particular, noted that although considerable assistance is provided to the Russian base in Tajikistan annually, there are still problems that should be tackled.  He added that assistance to the base will increase and be task-oriented, Konev said.
