KONIBODOM, July 1, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Eleven schools in Sughd’s Konibodom district are currently in a very poor state, Nazirjon Bobojonov, the head of the Konibodom education department, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, problems facing the education sector have been partially tackled due to assistance provided by parents of pupils.

“Thus, construction of nine classes to accommodate totaling 220 pupils has started in the village of Niyozbek due to financial support of parents; the estimated budget for the construction work is 197,000 somonis,” said Bobojonov, “The parents have also promised provide the school with necessary educational supplies.”

He added that construction of 17 classes had also started at another seven schools and two schools have remained half-finished because of lack of finance.  In the meantime, the population growth and establishment of new communities require construction of three new schools in the district, Bobojonov said.

“We have completed repairs to all 53 schools in the district and 80,000 somonis have been allocated from the local budget for renovation of schools,” the Konibodom education official said, noting that 296,000 somonis have been spent by the association of parents’ committees for renovation of schools.
