Russian official terms construction of Sangtuda-1 HPP as example of successful bilateral cooperation

DUSHANBE, July 1, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Today’s official ceremony of introduction of the second units of the Russian-built Sangtuda-1 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) into commission, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, was attended by the head of Russian President’s Office Sergey Naryshkin and Russia’s Energy Minister Energy Minister Sergey Shamtko.

Speaking at the unit-inaugurating ceremony, Naryshkin noted that construction of the Sangtuda-1 station is the largest energy project within the CIS area and completion of the project will promote socioeconomic development of Tajikistan and bring electricity and heat to residential buildings, schools and hospitals.  

He termed construction of the Sangtuda-1 HPP as an example of successful and efficient cooperation between the Russian Federation and Tajikistan. 

According to him, the latest industrial and managerial technologies have been used during construction of the station.   “The unit delivered from St. Petersburg is the largest power machine in modern history of the St. Petersburg power engineering industry,” the Russian president’s office head said, adding that construction of the Sangtud-1 power plant demonstrates existence of great integration potential of cooperation within the CIS area.
